Beginning Fencing Students will learn the basic foundations of fencing, including elementary footwork, basic bladework, introduction to rules, and beginning bouting. As students gain the basic skills, they will move into the second level of the class, where they will learn more advanced moves, and begin to develop the ability to apply their knowledge in different combinations while fencing others. New classes start on the first Wednesday of every month.
Advanced Fencing In this class, students will build on the foundation they established in Beginning Fencing, with an emphasis on fencing as competition. Advanced footwork and bladework will be introduced, as well as offensive and defensive combinations. Tournament strategy and tactics will be introduced, as well as more in-depth understanding of the rules.
Open Fencing This class gives students the opportunity to fence one another without the formal structure of group instruction. During this time, it is usual to find the competitive fencers of our club practicing for tournaments, usually with electric equipment. Frequently there are informal tournaments, challenge ladder bouts, and progressive competitions. Individual lessons are available at this time as well.
